My father’s early death was a defining moment in my life and for my family. My mother sat us down and laid out the challenges ahead and the exciting opportunities that await us. When she was done explaining, she asked, “So, what do you intend to do now?”. While all the three of us children were still in school, that question turned out to be one of my life’s biggest lessons.
Over the years, I have realised that If I wanted to succeed in life, I had to be clear about my intention. What is it that I really want? I ask myself this question 10 times before I start anything new. This could be related to money, power, recognition, purpose or just the feeling of being useful to others in life. The secret to success is to be very clear about your intention.
It is only then that I ask myself the second question –Is this intention worth the effort that I would be investing? If the answer is no, I revisit and redefine my intention. If the answer is yes, I focus on the effort.
In my experience, every single time I made an effort, without any clarity on my intention, I either failed to create the right impact or it was used effectively to fulfill someone’s intention.
Think about it. If you place why you are doing it ahead of what you are doing or how you are doing, your chances of success would increase manifold.
What do you think?
